Police: Man Arrested After Fleeing By Swimming Into Lake

RICHFIELD, Minn. (WCCO) – Police in the south metro say they apprehended a man Tuesday morning after he fled from them and swam to an island in the middle of a lake.

The Richfield Police Department says the incident happened just after 7 a.m., when officers responded to a suspicious person report on the 6000 block of Portland Avenue South.

When officers arrived at the scene, the person – who was not identified by police – fled and entered the nearby Legion Lake.

Police said multiple agencies responded to search for him and set up a perimeter around the lake. About an hour later, a police dog found the man on an island.

Officers arrested the man, who had an outstanding felony warrant out of Anoka County, without incident.
