Police: Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Metro Transit Bus In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say a pedestrian died Wednesday afternoon after being hit by a Metro Transit bus in downtown Minneapolis.

A spokesperson with Metro Transit said the bus was heading eastbound on 2nd St. S. and turning north onto 3rd Avenue S. just before 3:45 p.m. when it hit a man, later identified as 71-year-old Andrew Morris Beisner. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities with Metro Transit are on the scene handling the investigation. Officials said there could be delays with other bus routes as a result of the accident.

It's not known how many people were on the bus at the time of the accident, but officials say it was not full. It's not known if Beisner was in the crosswalk at the time of the incident.

The driver of the bus is being tested for alcohol and drugs, which is standard procedure for Metro Transit in fatal crashes.
