Police: Mankato Man Hurt After Falling From Bus, Alcohol A Factor

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 21-year-old man from Mankato was hurt early Sunday morning and taken to a hospital after falling off the back of a bus that provides residents a safe ride home, according to police.

Mankato Police responded to the intersection of Warren and Pleasant Streets at about 2:22 a.m. Sunday on a report of a person lying in the street. When authorities arrived, the man had suffered head injuries and had to be taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to witnesses at the scene and surveillance video, the man was seen hanging onto the back of a Late Nite Express bus by standing on its rear bumper as it left a bus stop. Police said it's believed the man fell from the bus and that alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Authorities said it's believed the man was alone when he jumped on the back of the bus. There has been no update on his medical condition and it's not known if he's a college student in Mankato. The bus is a service provided by the city of Mankato for people to get a safe ride home.
