Police: Man Threatened To Shoot Up National American University
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 20-year-old man is accused of threatening to carry out a shooting at National American University in Burnsville last Friday over his frustrations in locating the school for a consultation.
The Dakota County Attorney's office says Aziz Holmes called the school to learn more information about enrolling, and said he was on his way to meet with an employee in person.
Two-and-a-half-hours later, an angry Holmes called back because he was unable to find the building. Two female employees transferred his call to the director after he began yelling and swearing at them.
The director took the call and attempted to calm Holmes down, but Holmes continued to accost the director, who then threatened to hang up on him.
Holmes then allegedly told the director he would shoot up the school if he was hung up on, and he would shoot the director in the head.
After Holmes hung up, the director contacted authorities and decided to close the school for the rest of the day due to the threat.
Police contacted Holmes, who admitted to the threats but said he was not planning on shooting anyone -- he only wanted to beat up the director.
Holmes was charged with one count of making terroristic threats. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
