Police: Man Attempts To Flee Police On Foot In Swamp

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man attempted to flee police on foot through a marsh in Stearns County Saturday morning.

According to police, Stearns County Sheriff's deputies attempted to stop a car that had fled their advances.

They chased the car for a short time, during which the car exceeded speeds of 100 mph.

Police said the driver then pulled the car over on County Road 45 in Avon Township.

While the car was still moving, a man got out of the car and fled on foot.

The man ran into a lowland swamp area where police lost sight of him.

Police attempted to search for the man, but ended the ground search due to open water and deep swamp land.

A Minnesota State Patrol helicopter was sent up up to search for the man.

Around 8:11 a.m. a person called to report a suspicious male near their garage on Shorewood Drive.

Police said the male matched the description of the driver who fled.

An ambulance was sent to the scene and the male was treated for cold weather exposure.

The incident remains under investigation.
