Police Investigating Water Accident At Roseville Motel Pool

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say they are investigating a near-drowning incident at a pool at a Roseville motel Monday afternoon.

The Roseville Police Department and the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol Unit were called at about 12:01 p.m. to the Roseville Motel 6, located at 2300 Cleveland Avenue, on a report of a possible drowning at the motel's outdoor pool. Officers arrived to the scene and learned that a 60-year-old man and his female companion had been drinking before he entered the pool.

The man swam to the pool's deep end and after several minutes, he didn't surface and was lying at the bottom of the pool. Witnesses at the scene were able to pull him from the pool and put him on the deck.

The man was immediately transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Officers said he had labored breathing and was unconscious. Authorities said the victim is a St. Paul resident, but his name has not been released.

The Roseville Police Department said what led up to the incident is under investigation.
