Police: Woman In Her 70s Fatally Stabbed In South Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police are investigating a homicide in south Minneapolis Wednesday.

Police say when they responded to reports of a stabbing at Chicago Avenue South and East Franklin Avenue at 9:40 a.m., they found a woman believed to be in her 70s and in grave condition with multiple stab wounds.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later identified the woman as 78-year-old Elena Mantini. She died of a stab wound to the chest, the examiner's report said.

After officers provided immediate emergency aid, the woman was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where she died shortly after.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived on the scene.

Homicide detectives from MPD are leading an investigation with the assistance of the Metro Transit Police Department and are searching for any connections with related crimes in the area.

The medical examiner is set to release the identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death in the days to come.
