MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Investigators are hunting for a young father's killer.

A friend discovered 21-year-old Lawrence Renfro shot to death inside his apartment in West St. Paul Tuesday at about 11 a.m. Police say the crime scene suggests Renfro knew his killer.

Investigators are checking surveillance video near the Oakdale Terrace apartments for possible clues.

Bryant Payne, Renfro's great uncle, told WCCO-TV his nephew had just begun his life with his baby boy.

"He's a good kid," Payne said. "He will never be forgotten. It hurts. It really hurts."

Payne urges everyone to let the police do their work.

Interim Police Chief Brian Sturgeon calls this case unusual for the city. This is the West St. Paul's first homicide since 2017. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are assisting the local police departments and sheriff's offices.
