Police ID Man Arrested In Payless Shoe Store Robbery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police have identified the man arrested for robbing a Payless shoe store Thursday night in the north metro and holding two workers hostage.

Coon Rapids police say 38-year-old Benjamin Elmer Flanders, of Minneapolis, admitted to robbing the store with a silver BB gun, threatening employees and holding them hostage as police waited outside.

The hostage situation lasted a few hours before Flanders gave himself over to authorities. The employees were not injured.

Flanders now faces charges of first-degree aggravated robbery and kidnapping.
