Police Hear Murder Suspect Confess To Mom On Speaker Phone

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 25-year-old man faces murder charges in connection to the stabbing death of a 35-year-old Redby woman, who was found bleeding to death on a Bemidji street Friday night.

The Beltrami County Attorney's office says Brian Keith Jourdain, of Bemidji, was charged Tuesday with two counts of second-degree murder.

Bemidji Police say Krista Fisherman was found lying on a Bemidji street with four stab wounds on the night of Feb. 13. She was rushed to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner says Fisherman died from loss of blood, and primarily from a stab wound to her right leg.

Investigators say surveillance video from a department store near the crime scene showed Fisherman walking with a man -- later identified as Jourdain -- right before the stabbing.

Police went to Jourdain's mother's home, where his mother told investigators he contacted his grandmother on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.

In text messages sent from Jourdain's grandmother to his mother, the grandmother stated, "He's drunk. He said he stabbed [Fisherman] and needs a ride up here ASAP."

Jourdain's mother then called him on speaker phone with police present. He confessed to stabbing the victim multiple times, and when his mother asked him why, he stated, "She pissed me off."

He then told his mother he was at a Bemidji McDonald's and needed a ride to the Red Lake Indian Reservation. Police then drove to the restaurant and arrested him.

Jourdain is currently being held in the Beltrami County Jail.
