Police Draw Weapons In Traffic Stop On Hwy 169
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Burnsville man is in custody after Eden Prairie Police officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop Friday morning that ended with firearms drawn.
Police have charged Anwar Abdiwahed, 20, with terroristic threats and other charges.
The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. on Highway 169 southbound, near the Excelsior Boulevard exit, according to a spokesperson for the State Patrol.
Police say they received a 911 call from a man who said a passenger in another vehicle had pointed a gun at him on the highway near Shakopee.
An Eden Prairie officer located the vehicle near the intersection of Highway 169 and I-494, and followed the vehicle until backup arrived.
The vehicle exited the highway at Excelsior Boulevard and got back on heading the other direction, where State Patrol and Eden Prairie Police officers stopped the vehicle with guns drawn.
Police say they found a handgun in the vehicle, and arrested Abdiwahed for terroristic threats and other charges. The driver may be charged pending further investigation.
The road was closed during the incident, which briefly snarled morning rush hour traffic.
