Police: Brooklyn Park Man Beats 10-Month-Old Son

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (AP) — Hennepin County authorities have charged a Brooklyn Park man who they say beat his 10-month-old son and left him brain dead.

Twenty-year-old Dennis Taylor is charged with first-degree assault. Authorities say the baby was declared brain dead Monday and was on life support Tuesday.

Paramedics found the baby not breathing when they were called to a Brooklyn Park home Friday.

Taylor tells officers he left the baby in a car seat to sleep, and the baby had vomited and wasn't breathing when Taylor returned. He tells police he was the only adult present.

Doctors at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis say the boy suffered severe a brain injury consistent with abuse and there was evidence of a previous brain injury.

Taylor is being held in the Hennepin County jail. Online jail records didn't indicate an attorney.
