Police: Baby Monitor Hacked In Rochester

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Parents use a baby monitor to keep tabs on their babies, but a family in Rochester says some people were using them for something much more disturbing.

Rochester police say the family had their monitor hacked and the IP address registered to a location overseas. The parents told investigators they didn't notice anything until the device started playing music.

Images of their baby from the monitor were also found on a website that shows hacked internet-connected cameras from around the world.

John Olson of Miracle Computers says parents need to be aware of what they put on cameras that can be accessed online.

"If you can access it outside the home, it's definitely possible for someone else to access that camera as well," he said.

Olson also says constantly changing the default password for access to the monitor helps prevent situations like this.
