Police: Age Of Skeletal Remains Determines Next Step

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Construction workers found skeletal remains in Hastings Wednesday, and what happens next depends on how old the remains are.

Hastings police say the workers found the remains at the corner of 14th and Vermillion streets, at the site of a new CVS Pharmacy.

Police, the medical examiner and anthropologists responded to the scene. Officials are considering the location to be a possible grave site.

As for now, the bones were given to the Hamline University anthropology lab for testing.

If the bones are more than 50 years old, the investigation will be treated as an archaeological one. If the bones are less than 50 years old, there will be a criminal investigation.

Police say they expect the bones are more than a half a century old.
