Student Shot Dead In Duluth Was Son Of St. Paul Sergeant
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police in Duluth have a person of interest in custody following a deadly shooting Tuesday.
The shooting happened at about 2 p.m. inside a residence on the 500 block of East 11th Street, according to police.
Officers arrived to find a 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The victim was later identified by St. Paul Police Wednesday as William Grahek, son of St. Paul Police Sgt. Jon Grahek.
"[William] grew up in Centerville, Minn., and graduated from Centennial High School. He lived in Duluth, Minn., where he was studying at the University of Minnesota Duluth and was proud to serve as a specialist with the 312th Army Reserve Engineer Company, located on Park Point in Duluth," said a St. Paul Police spokesperson.
Duluth police say they have identified a possible motive, but are not saying what it is. In addition to the person of interest, they were also searching for several others that may be connected.
The shooting caused a couple of nearby schools to go on lockdown for about 45 minutes.
