Police: 2 Arrested After Man Tries To Take Officer's Gun During Traffic Stop

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say two men were arrested last Friday after one attempted to take an officer's gun during a traffic stop on the Fond du Lac Reservation.

The incident happened at about 7 p.m. on the 2500 block of Big Lake Rd. on the reservation. Authorities say the vehicle was stopped for driving without its headlights on. The occupants of the vehicle were not cooperative with officers and wouldn't give any identifying information.

Authorities believed the occupants of the vehicle were under the influence of some type of narcotic. The driver was ordered to get out of the vehicle, he refused and officers talked him into getting halfway out. The officers eventually had to physically remove the driver after failing to comply with demands, and the driver continued to resist.

During the altercation, a backseat passenger reached out the window and grabbed at an officer's gun, trying to disarm him. The attempts were not successful and once the suspects were in custody and searched, the driver had a knife and a female passenger had a BB gun that looked like a handgun. Tehre was also pepper spray in the vehicle.

Two men were taken into custody in connection with the incident and are currently in the Carlton County Jail. They have not been identified, and the incident remains under investigation.
