Police: 16-Year-Old Shoots Brother In Columbia Heights, Flees

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Columbia Heights Police are searching for a 16-year-old boy after he allegedly shot his older brother Monday afternoon.

Police officers were dispatched at 3:33 p.m. to an apartment on the 1700 block of 37th Avenue Northeast after a woman called 911 and said her 19-year-old son was shot by his brother.

The 16-year-old suspect, whose full identity is known to police, fled the scene prior to law enforcement's arrival. A perimeter search was unsuccessful and the suspect was not found. It's believed he still has a handgun in his possession.

Witnesses at the scene told police that the suspect was playing with the gun while pointing it at his brother before the shooting occurred.

The 19-year-old victim was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The case remains under investigation.
