Police: 1 Dead In South Minneapolis Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say a man is dead after a shooting in a busy area of south Minneapolis late Monday afternoon.

The Minneapolis Police Department was called to the area of Lake Street and Pleasant Avenue just before 5 p.m. Monday on a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located an adult male victim who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The scene was less than a mile east of Calhoun Square in Uptown, a busy area in south Minneapolis.

Police say it appears the shooter and the victim knew each other. It's the fifth murder in Minneapolis in a six-day stretch.

"This community needs peace. We need people to put the guns down," Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau said. "The common denominator is gun violence. Gun violence is taking over the streets."

Authorities have not released any other information about a suspect. The name of the victim has not been released.
