Polaris Recalls 1,500 Of Its Newest Vehicle

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota-based Polaris is recalling about 1,500 of its new creation: the Slingshot.

According to the company, the 2015 models manufactured between Aug. 26 and Dec. 16 of last year, as well as the Slingshot SL motorcycles manufactured from Aug. 18 to Dec. 15 are being recalled.

The company said they may be equipped with roll hoops that don't meet current "hardness" specifications, which may not offer proper protection during rollover crashes.

The Slingshot debuted last summer at the Minneapolis Convention Center. It was notable for having two wheels in the front and one in the back. It sits 11 inches above the ground, there are no doors and two people can sit side by side in the unique vehicle.

Polaris said dealers would replace the roll hoops free of charge. Owners of the vehicles can contact Polaris customer service at 1-651-408-7579. The recall number is SLI-15-01.
