Pizza Delivery Driver Begins To Recall The Night He Was Shot

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The pizza delivery driver who was shot over the weekend is beginning to remember the night of the crime.

Andrew Gryskiewicz is in intensive care at Hennepin County Medical Center. His family said Monday that he's starting to remember what sent him to the hospital.

The 30-year-old works as a driver for Dulano's Pizza in Uptown. He'd just made his last delivery early Saturday when someone shot him, with the bullet piercing his heart.

"It's hard to watch him in so much pain," said his father, Duffy Boeser.

Boeser says his son's lungs are filling with fluid.

"Last night I was in tears," Boeser said. "It's so hard to watch anybody, but your own kid, that hurts, that hurts."

Amidst his pain, he has a sense of gratefulness that his son is speaking again.

"We had to explain to him that he'd been shot, and, little by little, the first thing he said was 'A big, silver gun, I remember a big silver gun,'" Boeser said.

Gryskiewicz also remembers the shooter's face was covered with some sort of fabric.

Police hope someone else in this area of 31st Street in south Minneapolis will remember something, too.

"No matter how small the information is, it could be something that could break this case wide open and solve it," said officer Corey Schmidt with Minneapolis police.

As Boeser waits for answers, he says he's struggling with anger over who would shoot someone for no apparent reason.

"He's a violent, dangerous person," Boeser said, talking of the shooter. "We need to get this guy locked up, definitely, soon as possible."

Police have not yet said if Gryskiewicz was robbed, although his money was reported missing.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call (612) 692-8477.

Gryskiewicz does not have personal health insurance, but a GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover his medical expenses.
