Pitcher Kyle Gibson Turning A Corner With Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Twins have been waiting patiently for RHP Kyle Gibson to turn a corner. With 17 straight scoreless innings, some are saying he might be there.

Gibson says he's letting his defense work in his first starts so far this season.

"I think I'm just going out there and giving the team a chance to win," he said. "Just trying to go 5, 6, 7, 8, whatever innings it is, and have the team in the game when I'm done."

Gibson says going through a full season in the big leagues last year has helped him this year.

"It showed me I need to work on consistency," he said. "Going through a full season and now having that chance to make those adjustments and learn how to pitch a little bit better when you don't have your best up."

Gibson's teammates say he's gained their confidence in the process, too.

"He's always had good stuff," third baseman Trevor Plouffe said. "He's commanding it a little bit better, he's more confident in it, and this is a tough league."

This year's spring training may have had an impact on Gibson, when new pitching coaches Neil Allen and Eddie Guardado started working with him.

"It's been a lot of fun to work with both of them," Gibson said. "They're very different, but just between themselves they both have different philosophies and it's been a lot of fun."
