Phone Bank Raises More Than $14K For Ovarian Cancer Research

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – This week, WCCO-TV is featuring the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Society Alliance for its Trees of Hope Campaign.

In addition to people sharing their stories about how ovarian cancer has affected their lives and families, WCCO-TV hosted a phone bank Tuesday to get donations for ovarian cancer awareness.

In one day, WCCO-TV viewers raised more than $14,000 for cancer research by calling in. About $11,725 was given in donations and more than $2,700 was offered in pledges.

While they may be vague, there are symptoms for ovarian cancer.  Doctors say knowing the early signs are key to saving lives.

The symptoms are: bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating, feeling full quickly and urinary symptoms (urgency or frequency). If you experience these symptoms for more than three weeks, doctors suggest making an appointment.

If you missed the phone bank but would like to donate, you can do so through Thursday at our Accomplish Minnesota page.
