Philando Castile's Funeral Set For Thursday At St. Paul Cathedral

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The family of Philando Castile says his funeral will be held Thursday at St. Paul Cathedral.

The announcement came during a press conference Tuesday where the family's attorney, Glenda Hatchett of TV fame, vowed that there will be a lawsuit against the officer who fatally shot Castile last week.

Valerie Castile, the mother of the 32-year-old cafeteria worker, called her son a martyr during the press conference, adding that his life revolved around work and family.

Castile died of gunshot wounds after a traffic stop last Wednesday in Falcon Heights. St. Anthony Officer Jeronimo Yanez fired the fatal shots.

The shooting made international headlines after Castile's girlfriend live-streamed the aftermath on Facebook.

His funeral service is slated to start at noon. Church officials say The Rev. John Ubel will lead the liturgical prayers and The Rev. Steve Daniels, of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, will give the eulogy.

The texts of the liturgy will focus on peace, justice and reconciliation, church officials say.
