Hit-and-run suspect arrested after pedestrian killed near Deer River

Pedestrian killed by a hit-and-run driver in Deer River, State Patrol says

UPDATE (Sept. 20, 2023): An arrest has been made in this deadly crash. What follows is a revised version of the original story.

DEER RIVER TOWNSHIP, Minn. —
A  61-year-old Deer River man is dead after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver Sunday morning in northern Minnesota.

The crash occurred sometime between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Highway 6 near Deer River Township, the Minnesota State Patrol said. Dense fog may have been a factor.

The state patrol identified the victim as John Nason Clement. 

A 37-year-old Deer River woman is in custody in connection to the crash. WCCO typically does not identify those arrested until they are formally charged.
