Amtrak Train Hits, Kills Pedestrian In Coon Rapids
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Trains are up and running in Coon Rapids after a person was hit and killed Monday morning.
An Amtrak track train hit someone near 85th Ave Northwest between East River Road and Highway 47. It happened shortly before 6:30 a.m.
Train traffic in the area was shut down for hours. Both Amtrak and Northstar service was affected.
According to a representative of BNSF Railway Company, "an Amtrak train struck a person on the tracks, not at a street crossing. All train traffic is stopped while personnel respond."
Just talked to a man who uses the NorthStar train to get to work. He boards 40 miles north of here...so he was stranded until his wife came and picked him up. The train stopped before 7am...and Andy told me this is the first bus to pick people up and bring them downtown. pic.twitter.com/968ACEGo9G

WCCO spoke with a commuter who was on the Northstar in between the Coon Rapids and Fridley station. He said the train stopped and they waited for about 30 to 40 minutes before going back to Coon Rapids station where they let everyone off.
