Patty Wetterling: 'Create Joy' For Jacob, That Will Bring Me Comfort

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- As they have for nearly three decades, the Wetterling family is staying on a positive message after a painful weekend.

In a statement via the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center, Patty Wetterling says the family is "deeply grieving" Jacob's loss.

"Everyone wants to know what they can do to help us," the statement said. "Say a prayer. Light a candle. Be with friends. Play with your children. Giggle. Hold Hands. Eat ice cream. Create joy. Help your neighbor. That is what will bring me comfort today."

The center confirmed Saturday that Jacob Wetterling's remains were discovered buried in a field in Stearns County, nearly 27 years after his abduction. Sources tell WCCO a person of interest in the case, Danny Heinrich, led investigators to the site as part of an ongoing plea deal in the child pornography case against him.
