Patterson Hoping To Forget Rough 2nd Season With Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings offseason lasts for about six weeks. Training camp in Mankato is less than a month away.

One player who can't wait for it to get here is wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson. After a sub-par sophomore season in the NFL, he knows last year was not good enough and knows a remedy for the issues.

His career has turned into a bit of a mystery. A pro bowl selection in year one, and a bust in year two.

"You can't really go back and look at things, man. I see a lot of plays where if Teddy would've hit me here, if I would've been right here in this spot, I wouldn't have had the year I had," Patterson said. "Everything has been changed around, people have been saying what they've been saying so I really try not to look at what happened last year. That's last year, and I'm just trying to keep that in the past and get ready for this year."

The key to turning it back in his favor may be the relationship his establishes this off-season with the quarterback.

"We know we can't win a championship right now in May and June but we do know that we can create some chemistry, get timing down, understand the concepts and understand what the coaches are trying to do here," Bridgewater said.

That's what Patterson has spent the months since the end of the season doing, trying to upgrade chemistry.

"You've just got to have the communication with your quarterback. You have to be at the right depth when you need to and you just have to be on pace with him," Patterson said. "This is football, this is what we signed up for. We all know how to play football, we just have to play pitch and catch."

Because Patterson knows his number won't be called unless he creates a new image. It's seldomly heard from a veteran, but to him training camp can't come soon enough.

"The faster training camp comes, the faster the season is going to be here so I have a lot to prove this year so I can't wait until it gets here," Patterson said.
