MnDOT Urges Drivers To Beware Of Icy Roads In NW Minnesota, Along I-35 Corridor

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials are urging drivers across Minnesota to be careful Monday after freezing rain and mist covered many roadways with a layer of black ice.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation said that as of 11 a.m. Monday roads in two areas of the state are completely covered in ice: the area near Fergus Falls in northwestern Minnesota and the Interstate 35 corridor in southern Minnesota.

Earlier Monday, the State Patrol says troopers responded to several crashes and spin-outs in northwestern Minnesota. At least one of them resulted in someone being hurt.

While MnDOT crews are out treating roads in both of the icy areas, drivers are advised to slow down, turn on their headlights and not use cruise control.
