Patrol: Man Seriously Injured Trying To Move Recliner On 35W

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 49-year-old man was seriously injured over the weekend after being hit by a car on Interstate 35W while trying to move a recliner chair that'd fallen into the roadway.

The State Patrol says the incident happened Saturday afternoon in Roseville. A Chevrolet Silverado was going north on the interstate when the recliner fell off its trailer and into the road.

The Silverado pulled over on the left shoulder, and behind it a Volkswagen Passat pulled up. The Passat's driver, Sakya Dama of Blaine, got out of his car to help move the recliner.

That's when a Chevrolet Trailblazer slammed into the back of the Passat going freeway speeds, the State Patrol said.

Dama was hit and injured in the crash.

He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center in serious condition, but his condition was upgraded to satisfactory condition on Monday.

A passenger in the Passat and the driver of the Trailblazer also suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.
