Patrol: 1 Killed, Several Injured Following 3-Car Crash On I-694

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The State Patrol says a man died early Sunday morning after he drove the wrong way down westbound Interstate 694 in the north metro and slammed into two cars, injuring six people.

The crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. on the interstate east of Highway 65, just south of Fridley.

The State Patrol says a Saturn SUV was driving the wrong way on the interstate's westbound lanes when it crashed into a Ford Fusion in the left lane and then collided with a Lincoln SUV in the center lane.

The Saturn's driver, 23-year-old Matthew Roessler of Brooklyn Park, was killed.

Two people in the Lincoln SUV suffered serious injures, while the others in the Lincoln and the Ford Fusion were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the crash, the interstate's westbound lanes were briefly closed to traffic.
