Parise Named NHL's First Star After 5 Goals In 2 Games

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Wild left wing Zach Parise has been named the NHL's "First Star" for his performance last week.

The award was announced Monday. Parise had five goals and two assists in three games to lead the Wild to three victories, stretching their season-high winning streak to five straight games and propelling them back into control of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

The Wild host Chicago Tuesday.

The highlight for Parise was a first-period hat trick Thursday against Calgary. Parise had only two goals in a 25-game stretch until that night. Still, Parise leads the Wild with 24 goals in 65 games.

St. Louis Blues goalie Brian Elliott and Pittsburgh Penguins right wing Phil Kessel were given the league's second and third stars for the week.
