Firefighters Brave Subzero Temps To Battle Minnetonka House Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Extreme overnight cold hampered the effort to put out a house fire overnight in Minnetonka.

Firefighters were called to the 3600 block of Robin Lane at about 2:37 a.m., where they found a garage fire that had spread to the attached home. After all residents got out safely, firefighters focused on putting out the blaze from the outside due to the fire's size and intensity. Several agencies were called in to assist.

Temperatures dropped as low as minus-18 degrees, and Metro Transit buses were brought in to help firefighters warm up and rest.

Crews were eventually able to enter and put out the rest of the fire. The house is considered a total loss.

The cause is still being investigated.
