Outdoor Workers Welcome Warmer Weather

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- In contrast to the past few months, construction worker Josh Miller didn't have to bundle up against ice, snow and biting wind before starting his outdoor job on Monday.

"It's amazing. It's like being reborn," he said. "It takes me a lot less (time) to get ready in the morning. I'm not having to layer all up."

Monday's assignment for Miller was to tear the roof off a building, a prospect much less intimidating when highs are expected to reach the 50s and possibly even the 60s this week.

For much of the winter, Miller did a lot of stone and concrete work. That included making sure tools and materials didn't freeze up.

"We've had to tent in entire structures and heat them in order for our concrete to cure," Miller said. "Not having to do all that is going to be really nice."

Another perk at this time of year is the arrival of daylight saving time. That gives Miller and other construction workers more time to get their work done when it's light out.

"It's easier to wake up in the morning," he said.
