Outage Shuts Down Rides At Valleyfair

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A power outage Saturday forced the evacuation of all major rides at Valleyfair.

The power went out around 5 p.m., amusement park officials said.

Xcel Energy says a cable failed near Valleyfair, adding that 52 Xcel Energy customers in the area didn't have power for about an hour.

Valleyfair spokesperson Matt Haehl said all rides including the Wild Thing were safely evacuated.

After the power was restored at around 6 p.m., the rides were all inspected and visitors were allowed back on.

Valleyfair says operations for the rest of the evening were normal.
