BNSF Officials: 32 Train Cars Derail In Otter Tail Co.

BLUFFTON, Minn. (AP) -- Burlington Northern Santa Fe officials say 32 train cars derailed in Otter Tail County, but no one was injured and there were no hazardous materials on board.

BNSF spokeswoman Amy McBeth says the eastbound 92-car train was headed from Grand Forks to Minneapolis when the cars derailed Monday morning. She says about three dozen cars were empty. Other cars were carrying primarily sugar and sugar products. The train cars piled up along Highway 10 near Wadena about 6:30 a.m. McBeth says some sugar spilled from the derailed cars, but she doesn't know how much.

She says railroad personnel at the scene counted 32 derailed cars, although the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department says 18 cars jumped the tracks. The railroad will work to move the derailed cars off the track and investigate the cause of the derailment.
