Ortman's Senate Bid Gets A Palin Boost

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sarah Palin is endorsing Minnesota state Sen. Julianne Ortman as she seeks the Republican party's Senate nomination.

The former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate says Ortman will fight for small businesses and understands "the burden our federal government places on hard-working Americans." And she says Ortman has been a champion of conservative causes.

Palin doesn't mention Ortman's GOP rivals.

Ortman, businessman Mike McFadden and several other candidates are vying to take on Democratic Sen. Al Franken in November. State Republicans make their endorsement in May, but the race could spill into an August primary.
