Group Plans Rally To Oppose SPPS Proposed Budget Cuts

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A group of teachers, students and parents are planning to protest what they are calling "harmful and destructive" budget cuts that are being proposed for St. Paul Public Schools.

In an event posted to Facebook, group organizers call the rally the #SPPSNoCutsRally. It's planned for the parking lot at 360 Colborne Street, St. Paul, which is the district's administration offices and school board location.

The event is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, with speakers and music performances planned.

At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Board of Education's public comment period will begin, so people are encouraged to comment.

"We invite and encourage parent and student groups from all across the district to attend," event organizers said. "Electives and specialists are being cut, as well as cuts that directly impact programming that many students benefit from. These horrific budget cuts will have an impact district wide. We need to show up in numbers."
