Oh, Neau! Morneau Misses All-Star Game Cut

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota fans who were hoping to get Justin Morneau back in action at Target Field during next week's All-Star Game fell short in their efforts.

On Thursday, the MLB announced that Morneau -- who currently plays for the Colorado Rockies -- would not be joining the roster of players for next Tuesday's game.

The "Final Vote" winners, which were determined in part by the number of tweets certain players got via hashtags, were Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox for the American League and Anthony Rizzo of the Chicago Cubs for the National League.

Rizzo had the lead in fan voting until Wednesday night, when Rizzo passed him after homering for the 3rd time in as many days. Morneau has been having a terrific season with the Rockies and had expressed a strong desire to make the National League team in order to come back and thank the Twins fans for all their years of support.

Morneau could still be added to the Home Run Derby, though -- just like the Twins' Brian Dozier.

The current Twins roster will still be represented at the main event by Kurt Suzuki and Glen Perkins.
