State Patrol: 1 Dead, 4 Injured In Kanabec Co. School Bus Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One person is dead and four Ogilvie students are injured after a school bus was rear-ended by a van in Kanabec County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The fatal crash happened just north of Lake Ann on Highway 47 between 230th and 240th avenues early Friday evening.

Authorities say the bus had stopped on the highway to let some children off the bus, with lights activated and a stop sign out. The van rear-ended the bus, leaving its driver dead and several school children with minor injuries.

The driver of the van, 66-year-old Marvin Kuiper of Isle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The school bus driver, 54-year-old Daniel Torgeson of Ogilvie, was not injured.
