Officials: Victim Rescued After Car Goes Over Embankment In Mpls.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minneapolis Fire Department says a person was rescued Tuesday morning after a car went over an embankment near the Mississippi River.

According to fire officials, the incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. near the area of 26th Street and West River Road, with the car falling nearly 250 feet down a steep slope before hitting trees near the riverbank.

The incident was reported to the fire department hours later. Shortly after 9:15 a.m., the victim, who was alert and oriented when crews arrived at the scene, was lowered to the river bank by a rescue crew.

The victim was then loaded into an air boat and was taken to paramedics for treatment. The victim's condition is unknown.
