Officials: Child Found Safe Thanks To 'Project Lifesaver' Program

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Roseville city officials say the Project Lifesaver program played a big role in finding a missing 10-year-old child with autism, who was located unharmed Sunday.

The child was reported missing just before noon Sunday in the area of Larpentuer Avenue and Dale Street in Roseville.

Officials say the child was fortunately registered with the Project Lifesaver program, which is operated by fire departments in Ramsey County. The program allowed responders to use radio tracking devices to pinpoint the location of a missing child.

In the search, firefighters responded from Roseville, St. Paul, Maplewood and Little Canada, with assistance from Roseville police. The Minnesota State Patrol Helicopter, along with the Minnesota Aviation Rescue Team from St. Paul Fire, also assisted.

After around 20 minutes of searching, the child was located and reunited with the father.

"The partnerships that led to the positive outcome were the result of recent agreements between several municipalities within Ramsey County and their fire departments," the city said in the news release. "These partnerships helped lay the foundation for how and when fire departments respond to these types of emergencies and what procedures are followed."
