Officials: 12 Released From Hospital After Downtown Bus Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A dozen people are out of the hospital following an incident Tuesday night in downtown Minneapolis where a bus ran into a pedestrian and a traffic pole, causing several bus passengers to suffer minor injuries due to the abrupt stop.

Metro Transit officials said the Wednesday that all of those involved in the incident – including the pedestrian who was hit – have all been released from the Hennepin County Medical Center.

The incident happened just after 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of 2nd and Washington avenues, officials said. A southbound route 10 bus hit a pedestrian and a traffic pole.

What caused the incident is not yet known.

Multiple ambulances responded to the scene, and the pedestrian who was hit was taken to HCMC conscious and breathing, officials said.

Several bus passengers, both adults and children, complained of injuries. Ambulances took them to HCMC to get medical attention.

Metro Transit staff brought the bus driver to HCMC, too. The driver underwent a drug and alcohol test, which is standard procedure after such an incident. The results of that test are still pending.

Metro Transit police are investigating the incident, and a crash reconstruction was performed Tuesday night.

The bus driver was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
