Officers Identified In Fatal Burnsville McDonald's Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Burnsville Police Department has identified five officers involved in Thursday's fatal shooting of an as-yet unidentified person at a McDonald's restaurant.

The shooting happened at Highway 13 and Washburn Avenue around 6:15 a.m.

Police said that the person who was shot had a weapon.

Burnsville Police Chief Eric Gieseke said this is the first time his department has had an officer-involved shooting where the suspect was killed in 35 years.

On Friday, the department said they had placed all five officers who were at the scene on paid administrated leave, which is standard for all officer-involved shootings.

The officers were Sgt. Patrick Gast, Sgt. Maksim Yakovlev, and officers Taylor Jacobs, John Mott, and LynRae Tonne.

Gieseke said officers were equipped with body cameras.

A recording of police audio from the website Police Clips indicates a McDonald's customer and an employee called police after they saw a man jumping up and down inside a car, and possibly waving a knife. Police did not confirm that to WCCO.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is waiting for the medical examiner's office to positively identify that person before releasing a name.
