BCA: 2 Shot By Officers In Eden Prairie Had Knife; Officers ID'd

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released more information in the deadly highway shooting in Eden Prairie Friday.

Police say a preliminary investigation found that police officers fired after repeatedly asking the suspects to drop their weapons.

The report also says Matthew Serbus, 36, and Dawn Pfister, 34, were in a stolen car when they led police on a chase. The red Saab could be seen on traffic cameras driving on Highway 212 with its hood up.

Police used a maneuver to stop the vehicle, which crashed on Highway 212 near Dell Road. The BCA says that's when the couple emerged from the car.

According to the preliminary investigation and officer statements, Serbus produced a knife and ignored repeated commands from officers to drop the weapon. He was then shot by police officers. Pfister then took possession of the knife, and was then shot by police. Both were fatally injured.

The officers involved are on leave, which is standard procedure while this investigation continues.

They have been identified as Sgt. Brady Juell and Officer Trent Wurtz both with the Chaska Police Department, Trooper Mark Lund from the Minnesota State Patrol and Corporal Nathan Mueller from the Carver County Sheriff's Office.

The incident is still under investigation.
