1 Hospitalized In Officer-Involved Shooting In Wis.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person is in the hospital following an officer-involved shooting near Hayward, Wis. Friday.

According to Sawyer County Sheriff's Office, a Washburn County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to stop a car traveling eastbound between Minong and Hayward on Highway 77.

The vehicle fled from the deputy and a pursuit ensued. The chase eventually ended near Harper Road in Sawyer County.

Officials said shortly after being stopped the driver of the car produced a handgun, and the Washburn County deputy shot in self-defense.

The driver was transported to the Hayward Hospital.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.
