NSIC Foes Meet For 1st Time This Year, In Playoffs

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Two Northern Sun conference foes will play for the first time this year — in the NCAA Division II playoffs.

Minnesota State and Minnesota Duluth each won their second-round games in overtime to advance to the quarterfinals, where the Mavericks will host the Bulldogs in Mankato this Saturday. Both teams remain unbeaten. With the NSIC's two-division, 14-team format, they didn't meet during the regular season.

Minnesota State beat Pittsburg State 24-21 to move on. The furthest the Mavericks have made it was to the national semifinals in 2012.

Minnesota Duluth defeated Ouachita Baptist 48-45 to advance. The Bulldogs were NCAA Division II champions in 2008 and 2010.
