Sunday Severe Storms Hit Brainerd Area Hard

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Severe weather rolled across northern Minnesota Sunday night, and areas around Brainerd appear to be the hardest hit.

Authorities confirmed a tornado touchdown in Deerwood, just northeast of Brainerd, just after 6 p.m. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office said it had receiving several reports of storm damage and injuries.

Storms with large hail and damaging winds also rolled across central and western Minnesota, prompting storm warnings.

There are no reports of significant injuries to residents of the Brainerd Lakes area, but there will be plenty of clean-up to do Monday. There were several reports of downed trees and power lines, and many residents in the area are without power.
