Next Weather: Storms expected early Monday, but skies should clear before 4th of July fireworks

MINNEAPOLIS -- Before the fireworks Monday, there'll be rain and storms washing over much of Minnesota. 

Meteorologist Lisa Meadows says showers and storms will enter central Minnesota in the overnight hours as a low pressure system moves over the state. The main threats will be hail and damaging winds. 

The system looks to bring a band of storms toward the Twin Cities metro around 10 a.m. After that, stronger storms could develop in southeastern Minnesota. 

In the afternoon, however, the rainclouds will push into Wisconsin, making for clear skies over Minnesota. Models suggest skies will remain clear into nightfall, making an ideal backdrop to Fourth of July fireworks displays. 

"Fingers crossed," Meadows said, although she cautioned to bring rain gear, "just to be safe," as storms could develop on the back end of the system.

Temperatures Monday will climb into the upper 80s in the Twin Cities while communities in the southwest could see the mercury reach the low 90s. 

Looking ahead, more storms look to be instore for Tuesday and Wednesday before a midweek clearing. Another round of storms also appears to be in the weekend forecast.
