Newport Man Drags Neighbor To Safety From Burning Home

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police are calling a young man a hero, for the way he helped a neighbor after an explosion in his home.

Newport firefighters say a neighbor was at the home helping out with some renovations Saturday afternoon when a gas lawnmower blew up inside the garage. The neighbor, who is in 70s, couldn't escape, his clothes caught fire and he was hurt.

Police say the homeowner likely saved his neighbor's life -- he pulled the man out to the yard quickly and called for help.

The fire spread to both of their homes before firefighters could get it under control.

The neighbor is at the hospital, with no news on how badly he was burned.
