New Shakopee VA Clinic Holds Grand Opening

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) -- Monday marks the grand opening of the new Veterans Affairs clinic in Shakopee.

U.S. Rep. John Kline is slated to keynote the 9 a.m. program, which includes an open house and tours.

The Shakopee facility is the 13th community outpatient clinic in the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. It opened June 2. The services it offers include primary care, mental health counseling, podiatry, imaging services, telemedicine, education and social work.

It opens at a time when the VA is under fire for long waits for care at several facilities across the country. An audit found waits at the Minneapolis and St. Cloud systems are considerably shorter than the worst trouble spots in the VA. But the audit flagged the Minneapolis VA Medical Center and its Rochester clinic for further review.
